Character Name: Fuuka Yamagishi
Character Canon: Persona 4 Arena
History: Wiki
AU History:
Fuuka is the only child and daughter of the Yamagishi family. Ever since she was born, she already knew that she was going to be a doctor like the rest of her family. With such high hopes, she had her life set in stone for her. Day in and day out, she would spend most of her days trying to study as hard as she could to make her family proud of her. And in return, her family constantly told her that she would become a great doctor...even if she didn't want to. While she would have preferred to do something else, she just didn't want to disappoint her parents.
However, things took a turn for the worse when she was in school one day. While she was playing outside, she suddenly fainted and found out she had a high fever. At first, she recovered but it kept happening time and time again. It gotten to a point where her parents figured it would be better to keep her homeschooled and have regular visits to the hospital. After all, even while her family were doctors, it seemed as though they were always too busy to pay much attention to her.
During this time, Fuuka was labeled as weird from her former classmates. For a person who gets sick all the time, they feared that they might end up getting whatever she has. Luckily, the young girl didn't seem to mind. In fact, she might as well accepted that this was who she was and that she was going to be sick forever. The only problem was that she wished she wasn't so lonely. That was when her parents decided to get her an Espurr. It was also around this time that Fuuka's interest in engineering and Pokemon grew. It was a good thing that the nurses in the hospital didn't mind helping her with hiding those books!
Slowly but surely, after spending most of her life in a hospital, it seemed as though her health as improved. While she wasn't out of the woods just yet, it was enough where she didn't need to be in constant supervision anymore. From there, Fuuka announced to her parents that she didn't want to be a doctor anymore. Instand, she wished to be a trainer just like her peers. At first, her parents were against the idea and told her that she needed to focus on becoming a doctor.
However, after much arguing, Fuuka eventually made a deal with them. If she were to become a trainer, she would come back home from time to time to focus on her studies. After 2 years of trying to talk with them, they finally agreed with the condition that she has a year. Should her health worsen during that time period, then becoming a trainer wasn't worth the risk.
Without a moment to lose, she thanked her parents and off to see what the world had to offer.
Canon Personality:
When being compared to most of her friends, Fuuka doesn't have anything that stands out about her. After all, what could be said about a young high school girl who disagreed with parents? Isn't that normal for most teenagers? While this might make her submissive to some, that would soon change.
On the surface, one would expect Fuuka to be a doormat. The thing that stood out about her early on was how she was being constantly bullied. While we may not know the extent, Fuuka never took any real action against those who had harmed her and just simply took it as it was. Later on, we also found out that her parents wanted her to become a doctor despite her wishes. It was what they wanted and she had to become one for their own sake. She was trying to meet her parents and people's expectations.
However, that wasn't all to her. Through the canon, it has been proven Fuuka is one of the most calmest members of the group to the point where it rivals the male MC. This was the same person who managed to walk ten hours into the Tartarus without getting caught and not panic. This was also the same person who managed to use her evoker with ease compared to everyone else when they first had it. Lastly, she also had no issue with experiencing shadows on a daily basis. In fact, the only two times she broke away from that calm nature was when Ken was lost and when Junpei was complimenting her.
It was also because of her calm nature that she often thought about her choices before she acted. An example would be when she decided to join SEES. While she wanted to move out of the house badly, it was clear that she had thought about her decision despite how obvious the answer was. It was because of placid nature, she played support. If her comrades were in trouble, she would try to suggest what would best for them in battle instead of quickly panicking. However, the most obvious example would be in The Answer arc. During that arc, when the group was deciding if they should go back to bring the male MC back or to move on without him, Fuuka was the only one who did not make anything definite. Instead, she said that she refused to fight any of her friends and wanted to stay neutral. Of course, after listening to everyone's stories, she finally went with Aigis simply because “It was the one I agree with the most.” It turns out, it was the right choice after all.
However, despite how peaceful Fuuka can be, she is surprisingly stubborn she wants to be. Once she has a goal in mind, she won't stop until she got it. When she told the male MC that she would focus her attention to technology, Fuuka was determined to ignore her parents wishes. If she wanted to go into the field of technology, when why couldn't she? Some more examples would be when Mitsuru asked her to look into some information about her company and when Fuuka restored a CD for Yukari. It is a bit difficult to hack and dig through information but she knew that she could do it if she tried. It is not something everyone can do and yet she was stubborn enough to break through it. Since she was so determined, she finally broke away from her parents wishes and went into computer engineering two years later.
Another that makes Fuuka stand out is how quickly she is to forgive people. The most blatant example was how she befriended her former bully, Natsuki. Even when other people questioned her intentions, Fuuka didn't really seem to care. As long as she was able to spend time with her, then that was all that mattered.
The reason why this was brought up was because of her friendship with Natsuki that made her into someone more loyal. While the news of her best friend moving far away did make Fuuka sad, she also realized that it doesn't mean it was the end. All it meant was how precious her friend was to her and how she wished she stayed connected. It was then that she hoped that she could stay friends with everyone whom she met and how it would never end. The resolve transformed her Persona from Lucia to Juno. On top of that, during the events of Persona 4 Arena, she did not blame Labrys for what she has done. Instead, all Fuuka mentioned was how lucky she was to have friends who cared about her.
Even though Fuuka changes throughout her canon, her character development made her into who she is today. From the beginning, she mentioned that she said she was find living in the dorms because it meant she could stay away from her parents. It meant that she could finally live the life she wanted and not live how they planned for her. Besides, she was gifted with a Persona that no other could use . For the first time in her life, she was needed. She might not have had a big impact in the canon but her time with her friends had shown her that she didn't need to live the life others wanted. She made a brief mention to Mitsuru about how she didn't seem to mind that she doing something questionable, if it meant that she could do something for them, it should be fine. She is becoming more confident in herself instead of having people judging her.
As a side note, Fuuka hasn't changed much after two years but it is clear that she is much more confident than her former self. An example would be how Fuuka disagreed with Mitsuru about joining the Shadow Operatives so quickly. In the past, she would not be so vocal. Instead, Fuuka has become more assertive with herself in what she wants. While she might disagree with her leader, it is also because Fuuka doesn't want to jump to conclusions so easily. After the events of The Answer, she would much rather get as much information as she can before making a reasonable answer. This might seem like she is still passive to others but she is still trying to make the right decisions for herself this time around.
AU Deviation:
Unlike her canon counterpart, Fuuka is a little bit younger so she has much to figure out about the world around her. In addition, Fuuka never undergone the events that made her into the person whom she is today. Due to this, Fuuka has become a lot more quiet and shy rather than being more outspoken. While she doesn't have overbearing parents pushing her to become a doctor, Fuuka also lacks a lot of direction in her life. This also plays into her confidence as she doesn't know exactly what to do.
Since she spent a lot of her childhood in the hospital, she doesn't have a lot of social interaction. She doesn't really know how to talk to others despite how much she tries.
Canon Abilities:
In Persona 3, there are people who have the 'Potential'. It means that they possess the potential to summon a Persona, beings that are like guardian figures to fight against beings called shadows. In this group called SEES, there are many people who are able to summon Personas but Fuuka's a special one. Juno, her Persona, doesn't fight in combat, it provides support. Due to this, Fuuka can tell what the strength and weaknesses of an enemy. Fuuka can also sense life so she can tell where someone is depending on their location. Most of her abilities range from simply telling what the enemy is strong against to healing with each passing floor.
On top of that, since Juno is an analytical persona, this also extends to breaking through illusions and spell as well. Another one of her abilities with Juno is that she can use Oracle. It is random ability that has many features. It can either heal all your party's HP, heals all SP, fully heals both of them, cures any status ailments, or...it can reduce all HP and SP to 1.
Outside of her Persona, Fuuka is an excellent hacker. This was proven when she was able to hack into the Kirijo group with ease as soon as Mitsuru gave her a password. On top of that, she has also proven to be good with technology as well. For example, she was able to recover deleted scenes when Yukari asked if she could look over a CD and see if anything could be done with it. She was also able to built some headphones for the protagonist out of mere scrapes of metal too.

1) What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
[As Fuuka heard the question before her, she couldn't help but chuckle a little] Well, I think Pokemon has had a huge impact on my life. While my Espurr might think differently, I couldn't think of a world without him. For as long as I can remember, she has been with me. It would be so lonely without them.
2) What do you feel your role in your city is?
My role? To be honest, I'm not sure. I recently became trainer and I'm still trying to understand that answer for myself.
[With that, she smiled to herself] Although, maybe that's the fun of it. I'm simply trying to see where my life leads me and hopefully something might show up.
3) What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
Oh, that's easy! I think the most important thing is if they're patient or not. I'm afraid that spending most of my life in a hospital hasn't made me the most athletic person to be around. Due to this, I can't spend a lot of time outdoors and train them as much as I should.
[Pause] It does make me wonder if they're willing to wait for me.
4) What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
[As Fuuka heard the question, she just stared straight ahead. When she opened her mouth, she couldn't say anything. Instead, she settled for a sigh]
I'd like to think it's because I'm determined and how stubborn I can be. But if I'm honest, I never asked them before. [A beat] I'm not really quite sure if I want to...
5) What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
[Was it her imagination or were these questions getting a lot more trickier? Once again, she gave a sigh as she sat back against her chair. Her greatest duty huh? What was that suppose to mean?]
I don't know. I mentioned before, I want to see where my life takes me because I don't really know what I can do for the Union. Right now, I'm hoping that I might be able to do something. I want to feel like I'm needed.
6) In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?
[Fuuka grew silent. She didn't know what to say back, she never really had seen or done anything that was considered unforgiveable. But then again, spending most of her life in a hospital, what could she say back? Although...]
I think...maybe not taking the time to listen to people. I know life can be busy and there isn't enough time in the day to talk to others but when someone needs help? The worst thing you can do is to just ignore it.
[It does get really lonely being in that room by yourself most of the time]
